I am Yoshida, president of Yamada Shusei Ltd., a professional apparel garment repair group in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture.
I believe that it is meaningful for adults to read picture books, and I keep picture books in the break room of my office. I also use them as learning materials to think about improving productivity and teamwork at work.
The following are considered to be significant for adults to read picture books.
1) Promotion of self-understanding
Reflecting on one's own feelings and experiences can deepen one's self-understanding.
2) Reduction of stress
Simple, beautiful stories and illustrations can be a means of bringing temporary relief from the stresses of modern society, and can also help heal and relax the mind.
3) Improvement of empathy
Sympathizing with the characters and the story can foster the ability to understand the feelings and perspectives of others, which can lead to improved interpersonal and communication skills.
4) Stimulation of creativity
Rich illustrations and stories stimulate the reader's imagination, which in turn encourages creative thinking.
Some studies on the significance and effects of reading picture books for adults have revealed the diverse values of picture books.
I would like to provide more opportunities to learn about productivity and teamwork through the use of picture books in our regular weekly study sessions.
