You can walk, you can stop, you can rest!

I am Yoshida, president of Yamada Shusei Ltd., a professional apparel garment repair group in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture.

In this issue, I present the words of the September 27th daily calendar.

"You can walk, you can stop, you need to rest!"

These were the words that came back to me when I was so busy that my body and spirit were exhausted and I somehow contacted my mother on my way home from school. I felt as if she was telling me that I could stop if I got tired, and tears spilled down my face. Student, Saitama

When I was in my 40s, there was a time when I overworked myself to the point of sleeplessness.

At that time, my thoughts were always moving ahead, and my sense of time was out of sync with the actual flow of time, so that by the time I got to work and started my day, it felt as if the day was over in my thoughts.

In other words, it was a time when my thoughts were more realistic and reality was merely tracing my thoughts, and I had very little sense of the reality of life.

At the same time, experiencing such a period made me realize how precious it is to live in the here and now, not in the past or future.

There are several effective approaches to stress management for managers.

1) Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness meditation is the practice of focusing one's awareness on the “present moment” rather than the past or future. This helps to reduce stress and anxiety and maintain a calm mind.

2) Moderate exercise

Aerobic exercise such as jogging, walking, or yoga reduces the level of the stress hormone cortisol and provides a relaxing effect.

3) Self-monitoring

It is important to monitor one's emotions and physical condition on a daily basis to detect early signs of stress. By keeping a diary and regularly checking your physical condition, you can take appropriate measures.

4) Breathing

Breathing exercises such as abdominal breathing and 4-7-8 breathing techniques help balance the autonomic nervous system and enhance relaxation.

5) Getting in touch with the great outdoors

Taking a temporary break from one's usual routine and spending time relaxing in the great outdoors can also be effective.

6) Consult a specialist

If stress is serious, it is effective to consult a psychologist or mental health professional.

7) Participation in a community of other managers

Sharing your concerns with other managers in the same position can reduce loneliness and relieve stress.

Stop by and have a good weekend!
