Organizational Development Learning from a School of Sardines➁

I am Yoshida, president of Yamada Shusei Ltd., a professional apparel garment repair group in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture.

Is organizational development learning from sardines effective under either inflationary or deflationary economic conditions? Basically, it is effective in both situations, but it is especially more appropriate in times of inflation.

This is because of the following reasons.

1. flexibility

During times of inflation, prices rise and cost control becomes important. Organizations that operate autonomously, like sardines, can respond quickly to changes, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.

2. decentralized leadership

During times of inflation, the market is volatile and quick decisions must be made. Decentralized leadership allows each team to respond quickly.

3. strong communication

Information sharing and rapid response are essential during times of inflation. Organizations with a culture of sharing information, like sardines, can respond quickly and effectively to change.

In either economic situation, learning from sardines can be an effective means of building an organization that is flexible, cooperative, and resilient to change. The key to success in any situation is to emphasize the autonomy and cooperation of each employee.
